About
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” - Carl Rogers.
As a therapist, it is my goal to bring genuineness, acceptance, and empathy to the counseling environment. I am here to meet you exactly where you are in life, without judgment or shame. The work of the client can be challenging and often begins with the daunting task of coming in the doors on that first day. Change is uncomfortable, and often avoided. I am here to facilitate that change, walk alongside you, and provide new insight and understanding.
“Follow your heart but take your brain with you!” - Alfred Adler
Our understanding of the emotions we experience has a great impact on our behavior and beliefs. In the therapy session, I utilize concepts from Attachment Theory, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, to help facilitate the recognition of emotion, both positive and negative, as well as help to develop the skills needed to acknowledge and understand emotion and move toward change and greater life fulfillment. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am currently working towards certification. Utilizing EMDR in session with my clients provides an opportunity to bring relief from intrusive negative beliefs or thoughts, distressing memories, and also work towards desensitization and healing of past trauma.
I have a master’s degree in Integrated Recovery for Co-Occurring Disorders, which provides me with a deeper understanding of the relationship between addiction and mental health disorders, as well as the impact addiction has on relationships and families.
It is my highest priority as a counselor that my clients feel genuineness, acceptance, and empathy when they spend time in my office, and I will walk alongside you as you take each step forward.
